Changing employee behaviour is undoubtedly one of the toughest challenges green leaders have to overcome. That is certainly the experience of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS), which secured BusinessGreen 's Leaders Sustainability Team of the Year award after successfully persuading its drivers to adopt more efficient eco-driving techniques as part of the first carbon management plan to be deployed by an ambulance service. While some businesses might offer staff bonuses to those who demonstrate the most environmentally conscious behaviour, that was not an option for the carbon management team at the YAS, making its success in changing employee behaviour all the more laudable. The YAS's trail-blazing carbon management plan identified potential cuts in fleet carbon emissions of at least 30 per cent, equating to savings of 2,250 tonnes of carbon a year.
