New WWF report: Mandatory carbon reporting will be good for business

we commissioned has shown that mandatory carbon reporting (MCR) would be good for business and play a vital part in our transition to a low-carbon economy. We joined with The Co-operative Group, Aldersgate Group and Christian Aid for this report that found the official assessment overestimated the total costs of MCR for large companies by up to £4,600m (over 420%), and underestimated the benefits by £980m (at least 230%). The report shows that rather than being a burden on UK business it proves to be beneficial. As part of its consultation on MCR Defra carried out an impact assessment on the costs and benefits to UK business from the proposed legislation. This impact assessment was very focused on the tangible costs and benefits, excluding ones that could not be quantified or were not applicable to UK businesses.
