Proposed Bill Could Weaken Wisconsin's Puppy Mill Laws | Care2 Causes

A new bill is being circulated in Wisconsin that would ease restrictions on dog breeders, despite new laws being enacted in 2009 under Governor Jim Doyle to crack down on puppy mills in the state. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Don Pridemore (R-Hartford), intends to quadruple the number of dogs that a breeder can have without requiring a license from 25 to 100 and would get rid of three inspectors who enforce the current law. “Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca, D-Kenosha, called it “unfortunate” that Pridemore would try to change the regulations when “the ink is barely dry on the law.” He accused the GOP lawmaker of trying to “gut the bill completely” by changing the rules and getting rid of several inspectors,” reports the Wisconsin State Journal .
