Japanese Fisheries Agency report show that for the 1st time committee debates ending Antarctica whaling

2011-07-29 Japanese Report Debates End To Whaling For the first time, Japan's Fisheries Agency has questioned whether the country should continue its whaling operations in Antarctica. A report from the Agency's review committee showed that most opinions were in support of the continuation of the hunt, but for the first time opposition voices were raised that put forward the opinion that the hunts should cease. At this month's meeting of the International Whaling Commission in Jersey, representatives from Japan had confirmed their intention to continue the hunts. However, in recent months doubts have been raised due to the huge cost of the loss-making operation, stricter environmental laws and security concerns around interference from protesters.
