Green taxes fell as a percentage of the UK tax burden in 2010, despite government promises to increase receipts from environmental levies. New figures from the Office of National Statistics released late last week, show that taxes such as fossil fuel duty, air passenger duty and landfill tax raked in £41.4bn last year. The figures confirm green taxes comprised eight per cent of the tax burden in 2010, compared to 8.2 per cent in 2009. Moreover, environmental taxes as a proportion of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) have fallen from 3.5 per cent in 1998 to 2....
