Taunton Deane Borough Council pilots heat pump scheme

In a bid to reduce fuel bills for its tenants, Taunton Deane Borough Council has confirmed that it is testing out air source heat pumps. It has been confirmed that four properties have been fitted with the specialist pumps. All of the properties are bungalows in rural areas that are off the mains gas network, meaning the tenants have to rely on costly electricity for heat. The bungalows used to be heated electrically through storage units. According to the council, the heat pumps will transfer well to urban areas where ambient outdoor temperatures tend to be marginally higher. Ken Hayward, the council's climate change champion, commented: "As a council it is important that we continue to reduce our carbon footprint and to look for alternative and renewable sources of energy heating our properties.
