Mississippi Toughens Penalties for Dogfighting #care2

People who participate in the cruel sport of dogfighting will soon face much harsher penalties, thanks to lawmakers in Mississippi. The bill (SB 2934), which was introduced earlier this year by Senator Bob Dearing, was finally passed by the legislature after being sent back and forth between the House and Senate just days before this years legislative session ended. It still needs to be signed by Gov. Bryant before becoming law. “I’m extremely happy about this,” Sen. Dearing said . “The penalties could be higher, but the House has come a long way from their original position. This is a good step forward.” Under the bill, as of July 1, 2018 anyone involved in any aspect of dogfighting will be facing maximum penalties of a fine of up to $5,000, up to five years in prison, or both.
