Government delays decision on controversial Druridge Bay coal mine plans

A planning decision for a new open cast coal mine that had been billed as a major test of the government's commitment to its high profile coal phase out has been deferred, despite Ministers having already had nearly 18 months to consider the pros and cons of the project. Communities Secretary Sajid David called in the project for Ministerial consideration in September 2016, following a controversial decision by Northumberland County Council to green light the development.
