There are two kinds of plastic ... one that is disposable or is prone to getting disposed, and highly treasured such as my plastic Croc shoes, or such as for outdoor sports gear. The revolution in synthetics is amazing - such as I can go surfing for hours in 65 degree water with only 3 millimeters of space-age fabric - without it, one would surely become a victim of hypothermia. Extreme winter campers and skiers know all about the space age fabrics. And boats - from life jackets to 30 foot recreational battleships, they're really all plastic (styrene, Dacron, polyester, resorcinol, MEK). Even wooden boats - horrors - are chock full of synthetics. What's the problem with that? If you want ultra-light, high tensile strength, and durability, synthetics are great. To me the problem is the pundits who somehow say that is all wrong, like arrogant little kings and queens who pron...
