Starbucks Introduces Reusable Cup That Sells for a Buck

Since 1985, Starbucks has been offering a discount to people who bring in their own reusable cups. In 2008 they set an ambitious goal of selling 25% of their coffee in reusable cups by 2015; a goal that was too ambitious by a long shot, given that by 2011 they were only up to 1.9%. So they cranked it back, way back, to 5% by 2015. However, the number might make a big jump now, with the introduction of a new plastic reusable cup that they are selling for a buck. That's cheap enough that people are not going to worry about it if they lose it, and it pays for itself very quickly with the 10 cent discount. According to the LA Times, Starbucks tested its eco-friendly effort in 600 Pacific Northwest stores starting in October.
