, Novacek explained that her vision for building the “Citizen Bridge” began over four years ago when she realized she was able to see Governor’s Island from her apartment in Red Hook. Unsettled by the idea that there was no way for people to simply walk to the island even though it was so close, Novacek was inspired to build a floating pedestrian bridge that could connect Brooklyn to the popular summer destination. Over the years, she has made a lot of progress with a little help from some friends such as architect Jonathan Marvel and representatives from the civil engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti and marine engineering firm Glosten.
