Little did we know, what we really were discussing and debating were the themes and ideas that would be presented the following day, in part two of the event: a series of presentations and lectures open to the public. Otto von Busch , a self-proclaimed haute couture heretic and fashion renegade, also Assistant Professor of Integrated Design at Parsons and Sarah Scaturro , head of the Conservation Laboratory at the Costume Institute, Metropolitan Museum of Art each discussed the perception and interpretation of ‘sustainable fashion’ in their lectures. One (of the many) ideas Otto proposed, was that we watch the tobacco industry to see how perceptions changed about the ‘coolness’ of tobacco and apply those methods to current perceptions of fast fashion.
