Assembly New York is a Culture Clash at Spring 2013 New York Fashion Week

The collection included accessories from several other designers featured in the Assembly New York boutique. Bright orange clutches by L*ampert added a touch of chaos and contrast to the otherwise neutral palette. Hand-beaded anklets and bracelets designed by Cuipo and produced by indigenous members of the Kuna of Panama brought attention to larger environmental and cultural issues, particularly deforestation and the destruction of native livelihoods. The social enterprise has purchased 3,300 acres of land in the Chepo Rainforest in Panama and through its nonprofit foundation, One Meter at a Time , it is raising funds to help prevent further destruction to the region’s ecosystem.
