Tiny refuge in the Alps built in memory of young Italian mountaineer

When the late Italian mountaineer Luca Vuerich died climbing an iced waterfall at only 34 years of age, his family paid him tribute with a new refuge for other mountain-lovers. Perched atop the Foronon del Buinz Mountain in the Julian Alps, this prefab, chapel-like shelter stands at 8,300 ft high. Designed by architect Giovanni Pesamosca , the hut took builders, mountain rescue volunteers and Luca´s friends just a day to complete.
