Help to Transform Weapons of Conflict into Wearable Symbols of Peace

Help to Transform Weapons of Conflict into Wearable Symbols of Peace

Cambodia has had nearly 3 million tons of bombs dropped on it in the past century, and most of their remains still lie scattered across the country , maiming and killing hundreds of people every year. The Purple Buddha Project upcycles these weapons of war in Cambodia, creating peace jewelry from pieces of UXO (un-exploded ordinances), bomb shells, bullets, and plane parts from the remains of conflict throughout Cambodia and Laos. These pieces are created by local artisans, through ethical cooperative associations that ensure fair wages. Bracelets combine semiprecious stones such as jasper and aventurine with slices of carved bullet casings, while necklaces may contain chunks of mortar shell. A Kickstarter campaign is now underway to fund the project, and the proceeds from each sale will be used to de-mine East Cambodia.
