Stephen King Helps Maine Residents with Heating Expenses

Known for his horror novels and movies, author Stephen King announced this week that he wants to help residents of his home state stay warm this winter. Through his foundation, The Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation , the goal is to raise $140,000 to buy heating oil for low-income residents in the Bangor area. Maine is looking at steep budget cuts in their federal home heating assistance program, receiving $32 million less this year than last. By working with three radio stations in the Bangor-area (which he owns), King will be asking listeners to donate $70,000 and his Foundation will double it. The STK Foundation was created in 1986 to provide support for Maine communities, specifically to address the underlying causes of social and environmental problems.
