SeaWorld to Install Exercise Machines for Captive Orcas #Blackfish
Since the dawn of SeaWorld (their first park opened in 1964), their captive animals have been languishing motionless in bathtubs of chemical-filled water. Now decades later, SeaWorld will be installing machines that will create “endless waves” for the orcas to swim against, recreating what they would experience in their natural habitat and giving them more exercise. This tiny little improvement at SeaWorld has been a long time coming and, frankly, it’s the least they could do. Obviously sea animals should be swimming in the fresh ocean waters, living with their families, and not performing silly tricks for loud crowds. Knowing this, knowing what’s right for these magnificent animals, it’s hard to applaud this “upgrade” at SeaWorld. A tank is still a tank.
