WATCH: Colbert and Michael Pollan Dish on New Book ‘Cooked’

The basics? Cook your own food. Pollan makes the point that if you are cooking your own dinner from scratch, you can pretty much eat anything, because you’ll eat the bad stuff so much less frequently. His example: french fries. While fries are easy to grab and eat at a restaurant or fast food joint, if someone were to make fries from raw potatoes at home, they probably wouldn’t go to the trouble too often. Also, while chemicals and preservatives can be found in abundance in foods made by corporations, you probably won’t find any in your pantry.
