We’re always bragging about the climate in Cornwall. You know the sort of thing – the first daffs in the UK, hardly any frost, tropical plants from all over the world that thrive in our gardens, and of course, spring comes to our shores first! Some of you may however think that these are empty claims, which is why this year six of our most famous gardens have set out on a (quite) scientific project to prove the point: spring really does come early in Cornwall. Great Gardens and the Nare Hotel have got together with Caerhays Castle, Trebah, Tregothnan, Trewidden, Trewithen and Trengwainton, to track the progress of their champion magnolia trees. The project will track the trees throughout January, February and March and the official start of spring will be announced when the first three trees have flowered with at least fifty blooms.
