Posted on 22/12/2016 by Nick Sharpe The proportion of Scotland’s electricity supplied by wind, hydro, solar and other renewables is at an all-time high, figures released this morning (Dec 22) show. Renewables produced enough power to meet 59.4% of Scotland’s electricity needs in 2015 – up from 49.7% in 2014. Green energy’s share of Scotland’s electricity mix is also at record levels – and shows the country is leading the UK’s action to reduce carbon from its electricity sector. While gas dominated the generation mix in England and Northern Ireland, in Scotland renewables had the largest share (42%) – double the proportion in the other UK nations. In Wales coal had the largest share (33%).
