In the same month Politico reported, “A long-awaited initial public offering filing by the solar installer SolarCity confirmed persistent rumors about a federal probe into allegations that some solar companies may have inflated their costs to increase their federal subsidies. In its filing to the SEC, SolarCity acknowledged it had received a subpoena from the Treasury Department’s inspector general for documents about the cost basis of some of its projects that were awarded money under Treasury’s 1603 cash grant program.” So what’s the deal, and should anyone be concerned?
