extension of the federal wind energy Production Tax Credit (PTC) is likely to cost more than 200 Nebraskans their jobs next month, U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Nebr.) said in an op-ed in yesterday's edition of the McCook (Nebr.) Daily Gazette. Mr. Nelson explained that uncertainty caused by Congress's delay "has resulted in wind power developers drastically decreasing their orders for wind turbines and towers. This dropoff in demand has forced wind tower producers like Katana Summit, employing 214 Nebraskans at its Columbus (Nebr.) plant, to lay off their employees." He pledged to continue working for an extension of the PTC when Congress returns to Washington, D.C., following the November election. The PTC provides an income tax credit of 2.2 cents per kilowatt-hour for the first 10 years of electricity production from utility-scale wind turbines. It is set to expire on Dec. 3...
