Virginia Tech opens base in India for small wind 2 Oct 2012 US university Virginia Tech has opened a research facility in Tamil Nadu, India, aimed at refining wind turbines for use in households in rural areas of the country. The concept was originally launched ten years ago, when Virginia Tech formed an agreement with private sector partner MARG Swarnabhoomi to establish an Indian campus. MARG has committed $1.8m for laboratory build out, with Virginia Tech making an initial outlay of $350,000 to support the project. The facility will be known as the VT, India Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science Innovation Center and has started recruiting graduates to work there.
