US #Solar industry created jobs at twice the rate of the overall economy in 2011

I appreciate that your objective, in part, was to avoid political consequences (since they are not named), but the reality is that Solyndra was a political giveaway. Steven Chu's energy department had recommended against it, even predicting the month when the company would run out of funds, even with the loan. Solyndra's model was unsustainable - you cannot make up in quantity when you have a product that costs nearly $4/W that sells into a market that was rapidly advancing towards an end cost of $1/W. By not taking a stance against this kind of political chicanery, the whole industry is painted with the broad brush of "over-priced, unsustainable, and a rip-off".
