New California Bill Would Open Up Solar Power to Non-Homeowners

New California Bill Would Open Up Solar Power to Non-Homeowners Monday, August 6th 2012 2:28 PM By GetSolar Staff. A new bill, passed by the state senate and as of August 6 under consideration by the state assembly, would allow those who do not own land to reap the benefits of a larger California solar installation, according to the San Jose Mercury News. How It Works Under the proposal, renters and others who do not own property would be allowed to buy power directly from the owners of nearby photovoltaic installations. Customers would buy a certain amount of power from the solar panels. Those solar cells would generate electricity directly into the main power grid, where subscribers would gain access to it.
