UK renewables production jumps up 33% in 2011 26 Jul 2012 The UK’s renewable energy production increased by 33 per cent in 2011 with offshore wind seeing a sharp 68 per cent rise. In total, 9.4 per cent of all the UK’s electricity generation came from renewable energy sources but the UK’s reliance on imported fossil fuels hit a 36 year high. This week Energy and Climate Change Strategy Ed Davey reduced support for the country’s wind sector but said the country remained committed to renewables, and domestic natural gas exploitation, to try and reduce the reliance on imported energy . Alongside a major rise in offshore wind, onshore installations also provided 45 per cent more power in 2011 than the year before.
