Thanks to falling prices for photovoltaic panels, solar power is poised to become one of the most budget-friendly sources for electricity, according to Ecofyst COO Kees van der Leun. Writing for Grist, van der Leun notes that even without government incentives like Arizona solar rebates, solar power in warm areas has the potential to cost as much as conventional power sources by 2018. This level is known as grid parity, which means solar power costs the same or less than electricity derived from sources such as coal or natural gas. Depending on the state, solar could reach this potential by 2013 at the earliest according to some estimates.
