Salazar approves 350MW solar project on US tribal lands 22 Jun 2012 US Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar has approved a 350MW solar project on tribal land in Clark County, Nevada. This is the first ever utility-scale solar development that has received approval on tribal lands and the 31st renewable energy venture the department has approved since 2009. The site is located around 30 kilometres north of Las Vegas, on three per cent of the tribe’s area. Construction is expected to create 400 jobs, with 15 to 20 permanent positions once the plant is operational. Salazar said, ‘This trailblazing project is part of the President’s commitment to help build strong, sustainable tribal communities by supporting safe and responsible renewable energy development. ‘Tribal lands hold great renewable energy potential, and smart development of these resources has the power to strengt...
