NJ State Assembly Passes Solar Energy Bill Thursday, June 28th 2012 3:46 PM By GetSolar Staff. The New Jersey State Assembly recently approved a bill sponsored by Senator Bob Smith and Senate President Steve Sweeney. The new legislation will require utility companies to buy 2.05 percent of their power from solar projects in 2014. According to the senators who introduced the bill, it is designed to support continued growth in solar power after a spike in solar popularity solar manufacturers to overproduce. Senator Smith said the bill is a crucial step in preventing stagnation in the solar market. The bill is also expected to protect jobs in the green economy sector. "By stabilizing the solar industry we can encourage growth in the green economy jobs sector in the state,” said Senate President Sweeney.
