Research institute in Singapore studying ways to improve #solar cell efficiencies #energy #cleantech

Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) has purchased a process development tool from SoLayTec - a spin-off company of the Dutch research organization Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek - that aims to raise the efficiencies of industrial solar cell designs. Under the contract, SoLayTec's atomic layer deposition (ALD) of aluminum oxide Al2O3 will be applied at a large selection of PV research institutes around the world. "The crystalline silicon surface passivation by ALD-grown aluminium oxide films has enabled very high solar cell efficiencies on lab-scale reactors, and we are very excited to see that companies are now bringing ALD from a laboratory scale to a mass production scale," says Dr. Bram Hoex, director of the silicon photovoltaics cluster at SERIS. “We are confident that our collaboration with SoLayTec will lead to very high efficiencies for ...
