Samsung enters Europe’s carbon capture race through stake in 2Co Energy 28 Mar 2012 A unit of Samsung has taken a 15 per cent stake in the UK’s most advanced carbon capture and storage (CCS) scheme, 2Co Energy’ s Don Valley Power Project, as it enters Europe’s carbon capture race. The planned 650MW Don Valley Power Project in South Yorkshire will capture at least 90 per cent of its carbon dioxide emissions and provide low carbon electricity to the equivalent of one million UK homes from the end of 2016. Through its Samsung Construction & Trading division, the company will take on the engineering, procurement and construction work at the South Yorkshire site. The move is a major boost to the UK’s CCS efforts and may help the project achieve its aim of securing both EU and UK funding.
