The company cites ongoing difficulties in the PV industry. However, there are few a-Si thin film PV markers left, and in March 2014 Tokyo Electron (Tokyo), which owns a-Si PV equipment maker Oerlikon Solar, decided to withdraw from the technology. “We have continued production at Masdar PV despite ongoing losses, in the hope that the situation will improve in the industry,” notes Masdar PV CEO Tushita Ranchan. “Unfortunately, the situation has continued to deteriorate. We regret having to make this difficult decision.” Masdar says that it is working with local authorities to find other employment options for the factory's workers.
