Americans Continue to Support Solar Power in Word and Deed Wednesday, November 23rd 2011 1:59 PM By GetSolar Staff. Only last year, the prospects for solar power seemed boundless. The country had continued its steady, yet dramatic increase in added capacity, doubling the installations from the year before. Yet, the market reversed quickly, with the growing strength of Chinese solar manufacturers and the sudden, dramatic collapse of several major solar companies across the U.S., from the Evergreen Solar Company in Massachusetts to the now infamous Solyndra in California. The Washington Post reports that Solyndra has begun selling off its assets and has found few interested buyers. Meanwhile, Larry Bell writes in Forbes outlining how hard many American manufacturers have been pushed by declining profits and competition from China.
