Thailand's Banpu Power enters Vietnamese wind sector with debut project in Soc Trang province:

Bangkok-listed Banpu Power has made its first wind investment in Vietnam with an 80MW project, the company said. Banpu has received an Investment Registration Certificate from the authorities for the first 30MW phase of the wind farm in Soc Trang province, which the Thai power-producer hopes to bring into service by 2020. The remaining two stages are due to begin operation the following year, the company told investors in an update. Vietnam is seen as a promising regional market for onshore and offshore wind development, with good resources and a target in place for 800MW by 2020 and 6GW by 2030, up from less than 200MW installed now. However, the global industry has expressed concerns at the level of the feed-in tariff on offer and the structure of PPAs available with the state utility. Banpu aims to increase its total installed base from about 1.8GW now to 4.3GW in 2025 ...
