@rechargenews with a good article on the challenges of subsidy-free renewables in NW Europe:

Zero-subsidy bids have already been won at offshore wind auctions in Germany and the Netherlands, while subsidy-free solar and onshore wind projects have recently been seen in the UK, Spain, Sweden, Dubai and China, with advanced discussions on the subject taking place all over the world, from Brazil to India. In the US, the wind production tax credit and solar investment tax credit will end in 2020 and 2022 respectively, while the UK government has said it is not planning any further renewables support beyond its next Contracts for Difference (CfD) round in spring 2019.
