Southeast Solar: Who Are The 'Leaders And Laggards'? - Solar Industry

Duke Energy does NOT deserve to be called a solar leader in North Carolina. They are doing only as much solar as they are forced to do. They lobbied hard to keep the “Energy Freedom Act” from even getting out of committee in 2015, despite broad bipartisan support. That law would have opened up the state to third-party PPAs. Duke was the elephant in the “stakeholder” room that negotiated the new energy law, HB589, and the law features caps on virtually every category of solar. This much rebate and no more, this much solar leasing and no more, this much utility-scale and no more. The law “requires” Duke to submit revised net-metering rules — a “requirement” the corporation welcomes and the rest of us dread. Have you checked out their community solar proposal?
