ABB’s 24.5MW microgrid to support Jamaica’s transition to #renewables https://t.co/M1PBgzbaUR

Swiss technology group ABB will supply its 24.5MW ABB Ability enabled microgrid and storage system to Jamaica’s electric utility company, Jamaica Public Service (JPS), aiming to support the island’s transition to renewables. Under their agreement, ABB will provide JPS with the microgrids, which because of their size and power it says are ideal for remote locations like islands, which cannot easily be connected to main power grids. ABB said its microgrid facility and energy storage system will enable power availability when solar and wind sources are interrupted due to cloud cover, reduced wind or other factors. The project will help integrate renewable solar and wind energy into the large tropical island’s power supply, reducing the need for fossil fuels and lowering the carbon footprint.
