While installers and developers sweat over rooftop systems and utility-scale projects in the desert, bankruptcies have been tearing through the list of manufacturers. Part 2 - targeting grid parity Grid parity is the holy grail in the industry – to be able to install systems that generate electricity at the same price per kWh as the same prices as conventional such as natural gas. The Department of Energy's SunShot Initiative has set a goal for installed costs of solar systems of $1/watt. Solar developers are still some way off that target despite the low cost of panels with the average cost of installations less than 10kW under the CSI programme remaining stubbornly high at $6.97/watt.
